Things to know to look like a Pro!

by- Lisa Brown

There are many reasons for  your computer to "act up". Before you panic, you should be able to do a few things to get it up and running.

The first thing you should do is write down any messages on your screen. This will not only be helpful to you later on, but it will be the most important piece of information for any technician you call.

The next step should be to restart the computer. This simple step often resolves many computer issues.

TOP 5 Ways to keep your system running smoothly!

1. Always practice safe surfing. - Be smart with where you are going one the net. Try to stay with reputable sites such as news organizations, retail and brand name sites.

The sites that you want to avoid are the ones with questionable content. These sites may carry Adware and malicious code that will infect and damage your files and possibly your hardware.

2. Keep your virus protection up to date. - We recommend Norton Antivirus or CA. There are the "free" antivirus programs out there but remember you get what you pay for. The free Antivirus may not always give you accurate information.

3. Always run your windows updates - Microsoft provides "fixes" to their products by sending updates directly to your PC. If these updates are not run you place yourself at risk.

4. Be cautious of surveys or free offers - These can be a ploy to get you to give out your email address and other personal information. If you provide your email this will invite all of that wonderful junk mail so..... BE CAREFUL!

When you download some free programs, files or music you may also download Ad-Ware. Those are those irritating pop-ups. Be sure to read what you are agreeing to.

5. Computer Heart Attacks on the rise  - Smoking effects your PC's health. The tar and the nicotine will build one the components inside your system. As it builds up, it will slow down moving parts, such as fans "the vital organs" of the PC. This will cause your system to overheat.
